Prevent Weapons from Clipping Through Walls

Under considerationby Kale · 02 Sept

Weapons can sometimes pass through walls, doors, and other surfaces when players stand too close to them. This can reveal a player’s position and reduces immersion. Add a near-surface weapon adjustment that naturally raises, lowers, or pulls the weapon closer to the body based on the available space. This should prevent barrels and attachments from extending through solid geometry while keeping the controls responsive.

When against a wall, there is small clipping where the gun will go into the wall slightly, so a fix for this would be to add collision to the wall and make it to where your gun points up when against a wall to stop this from happening, or make the gun get pulled back slightly by the player so it doesn't touch the wall and cause the clipping.

When against a wall at certain angles your camera will clip through, this also happens constantly with the tips of your weapons

I noticed that sometimes, reload/action animations (noticed especially on sniper rifle bolt action while scoped in) will intersect with the camera. It is particularly bad when the sniper is being pushed away from cover in front of you while scoped in. You could potentially implement ADS camera positioning keys for the reload animations, and use this information to approprately separate the two in an artist-controlled way. Usually the 'stressed' animations have this camera clipping issue, and disrupting the view down the scope during a messy bolt cycle could *add* to the expressiveness, as well as fixing the clipping. Similarly, these camera keys could help to reduce the issue weapons penetrating the view when being pressed against cover. It could be used to enforce positioning of the camera relative to the weapon when ADS, effectively moving the camera (and the character) backwards. For fun: If you have a bad grip on your rifle, with the scope too close to your head when you fire, the scope could 'smack' the camera (your character's face). This is something that happens with very high-power rifles in real life. (Speaking from experience.)

Fix your character and gun clipping through walls when pushed up against it. You can shoot straight through walls if you gun is clipped through and you can't access the menu while clipped.

Yes this could be fixed by your character pointing the weapon up or down when too close to a wall

I hope the developers understand the significance of this issue, and the "under consideration" tag is just boilerplate. This isn't upvoted as much as other items, and it's borderline a bug rather than a suggestion... But the criticality of this fix should be top of mind. Not a game that can be taken seriously while this issue persists.
