Improve the Bullet Penetration System

Under considerationby Miki · 31 Aug

Allow bullets to penetrate compatible walls and objects made from materials such as wood, glass, and drywall. Penetration should depend on factors such as the material, thickness, weapon, and ammunition type. Certain surfaces could also become damaged or break apart after receiving enough gunfire.

Many times, especially with chain-link fences it seems like only one of the two people shooing at each other can actually shoot through the objects. I have experienced this with wooden walls, and random debris very lightly, however fences seem to be 50/50 on if you can shoot through it, even the same fence in the same lobby can change. Some times either me or the other guy can shoot through while the other cant, or neither of us can and we end up starring at each other before deciding to walk around the fence. Not entirely sure if this is a hit detection issue, a netcode issue, or something specific to do with the penetration system

And also it should be mentioned with every weapon. Some kind of stat of how much it can penetrate through the material (any, just for simplicity). Then this stat can be added to attachments and type of bullets. For example the most powerful sniper rifle or shotgun be 100, then adding stuff will raise or lower this stat. Or Uzi - 50, changing bullet type - 55, adding suppersor - 40 Etc.

Objects like: Wood, Cloth, thin metal etc these objects should be penable with a verity of weapons in the game. Over the course of playing the game for the past few days I've noticed there is a lack on penetration with guns it would be nice to be able to shoot people who are hiding behind plywood.

Should even be able to penetrate metal depending on thickness, metal is not invincible!

Currently the penetration system is really confusing, some things that should be penetratable are not, whilst others that shouldnt be are. Maybe a penetrating system that is dependant on both material, thickness, ammo? maybe even based on the angle (different for each material), for example on metal at an angle even if the material is thin enough to penetrate from straight ahead, it would ricochet.

It would add extra realism being able to shoot through some "Soft Walls" as exampled If I hear a dude stepping around on the other side of a wall, I could shoot through it depending if it's soft or not. I think it would be a nice addition to the game.

I recall in other games how bullets can penetrate through soft surfaces, such as ply wood, sheet metal and other light surfaces. I'm not sure if the game has that already or if it is not yet a thing since the game is in early access. Though I do agree, helmets and armor would be great but ballistics overall for different calibers would also be cool too.

true can't tell how many times I died because 2mm of scrap metal stopped my bullets

Corners of trenches should also be penetratable through in cases of close range contact. As well as top parts of breastworks
