Add a Freelook Camera

Under considerationby CMDR aRcADe · 31 Aug

Add a freelook control that allows players to look around without changing the direction of their weapon or movement. While holding a dedicated input, players could observe their surroundings while continuing to aim or move in a fixed direction, similar to the freelook systems found in games such as ARMA.

Example: Being able to look to the left / right while aiming

When holding an angle, you often need to quickly check another direction. Right now, doing so forces you to move your aim and rotate your operator, creating unnecessary movement and noise. Aim Lock would let you temporarily lock your weapon and crosshair on one angle while allowing a limited, natural head movement to briefly look to the sides. This would be useful not only for holding two angles, but also while pushing. Once a fight starts, it's easy to lose track of your teammates because you can't see whether they're still on your left or right. With Aim Lock, you could quickly check if they're still alive and where they are without moving your aim away from the threat. It would improve teamwork, situational awareness, and reduce unnecessary movement without affecting gunplay.

Free look would be a very useful addition, especially for a tactical shooter like this.

Kinda like ready or not's free look where you can lean insane angles but at the same time it can cause like bad accuracy. might be a neat lil feature. moreso for those run and gun moments where your cornered or trying to tap someone real quick

Having ability to free look without changing direction of pointing weapon would be interesting to see.

This would not work with the bodycam identity, because our pov is through the actual bodycam and not our eyes. the way free look works is by moving your head without moving your torso, this just would not work with our pov

Implement a dedicated free-look key that allows players to quickly glance at corners and adjacent angles without changing their movement direction or weapon aim. When you’re in high-pressure situations pushing down a hallway or entering a room, you don’t always have time to stop and fully clear every single angle. A quick free-look would let you glance sideways at a doorway you're passing—or check behind you for a split second—while keeping your momentum and weapon pointed toward the objective (door or possible threat). This would make movement feel more natural and add meaningful tactical depth in competitive situations, where even a second can determine the outcome of an encounter. [To those concerned that this breaks the "fixed chest bodycam" perspective: real-world tactical bodycams and action cameras already use ultra-wide / fisheye lenses (140°–160° FOV)].

Reply to Nick. Using your logic the bodycam will never be able to line up with any sighting device. For example PUBG lets you move your camera to look around without changing the direction your character is running or facing. PC Default Key: Hold down the Left Alt key and move your mouse.

Could we treat the camera like a helmet-mounted action cam instead? That way, adding a freelook feature would make more sense. Freelook control scheme. Toggle settings and options. On key release, turn camera back to weapon/body pointing direction. Toggle Yes or No. >> When toggle Yes, camera turn back to weapon/body pointing direction. >> When toggle No, weapon/body turn to camera looking direction.
