Add Separate Proximity and Team Radio Voice Channels

Under considerationby SlipKnotXIV · 27 Aug

Keep proximity voice chat for communicating with nearby players, including enemies, and add a separate radio channel for communicating with teammates over longer distances. When piloting a drone, the team radio channel should be selected by default so the operator can continue coordinating with teammates. Voices transmitted through this channel should also use a radio filter effect to make radio communication easy to identify and more immersive. This would preserve local voice interactions while allowing teams to coordinate when separated.

Players think that Bodycam could do very good with an overhaul of the communication systems for realism. We know that realism in some aspects comes at a cost to player experience and needs to be thought-out for gameplay mechanics but I want to layout one option suggested by multiple people It is a radio system where you can talk to your team in game whether by push-to-talk or voice activated via settings. You'll be able to talk to your teammates anywhere from around the map, but while also staying true to the realism of Bodycam; that within a close range of speaking over radio, enemies can hear you as well. People will hear that "the enemies will hear you" as a bad thing but as a way to combat this objection, we can add a feature for obfuscated proximity voice from walls and object structures in the surrounding area to heavily muffle speech and if anything they may not be able to hear you at all. In this way if an enemy is using a radio you might be able to hear him somewhat if they're around the corner, if they're in another room you might just hear some muffled voice.

If there will be radio communication between teammates, please consider adding a radio animation where the operator raises their hand to the radio and actively presses the button to speak. This would make communication feel more realistic and immersive. Also, the radio could be attached to the character as a physical object. If a bullet were to hit the radio, it could potentially be destroyed, making it unusable.

Hello, i think there should be a low quality filter when players are talking through RC/Drones since its a speaker (often cheap) on it, like a maybe 64/48 kbps filter applied on it so we know if a voice is coming from a drone/rc or a player

The game is loud which is great, but makes it hard to hear party members in discord while enjoying the loud realism of the guns. I suggest modeling a radio hooked up to your comtacs. You could pull it up just like you would the tablet. The radio can be changed to any frequency you want or presets. This would let a small group of 2 or 3 to tune their radios to a common frequency and hear each other in ear, or the entire team could be on the same preset channel. The PTT key bind could then be used for speaking through your comtacs only, while not used you would be speaking openly heard by all in vicinity.

voice comms for team should be map wide the enemies in proxy should be able to hear you. not being able to hear your team only drives people to discord.
