Add Night Vision Goggles

Under considerationby SlipKnotXIV · 27 Aug

You guys should add Night Vision Goggles and Day/Night cycles on all maps!

Add an assortment of different mono, bino and quad nvgs in white and green phosphor to both the player and drones/rc cars to compliment a "night only" option in games. Maybe IR illuminators/lasers?

  • Nk30 Aug

Bro, nooo. The fact that vision is so limited makes the night the best part, like I'm actually down voting this

  • Daeeng30 Aug

homies right flashlights and lasers in the dark is what this game does right, nightvision would take so much curb appeal off bodycam

  • Jeno31 Aug

Either night vision or more streetlights lights from windows or a car that's still on, moonlight something lol. I can see better in real life in the same situation, it gets so pitch black in these maps, it's like you're in a sealed room. Which I mean it's hella fun but unless you're in a sealed pitch-black room you should still have some kind of glow from something. or like make it so the power comes on and goes off or dims at random, kind of like how you guys had the lighting situation on zombies.

  • NinJaPunch52231 Aug

I think NVGs and IR lasers would be awesome.

  • Crow02 Sept

It would be quite realistic to include various types of NVGs (GPNVG, single-tube, dual-tube, green phosphor, white phosphor) and even thermal sights like the REAP-IR. It should also be a feature the host can enable or disable, in case players want to play matches without them. Overall, though, it would be a great addition, as it is realistic and helps maintain light discipline.

  • Fabian02 Sept

release a night vision goggles mode

  • fk02 Sept

Maybe, but it should not be locked at start. Can imagine all the sweaty bois using it against newcomers.

  • Joel03 Sept

NVGs, IR lights, lasers and thermals! That would be such a needed addition, not a call of duty style that makes it mandatory on a night map, but just part of your kit and optional. Would open up so many possibilities, attachments on weapons, and different types of tech for your helmet. It adds light discipline concern which opens up a massive realistic tactical concern to the game. Plus, since drones were already added, it's a major missing piece of your puzzle if making a realistic FPS is the goal.

  • Koji03 Sept

Sorry this isnt Ground Branch its Literally called Body Cam

  • Christopher Vasilianu03 Sept

Thermal scopes and night vision would make the game a lot better at night when you dont want to use a flashlight.

  • Thibault Catimel03 Sept

"Night Vision & IR Optics" (suggested by <Hidden> on 2026-09-03), including upvotes (1) and comments (0), was merged into this suggestion.

  • CGMan03 Sept

The maps should just be brighter instead of gatekeeping visibility behind night vision goggles

  • Henry Ward03 Sept

Night vision ruins the scary factor of it being at night, also they would just be boring and make the game like all of the other tdms with nv. I think a helmet l;ight owuld be better

  • GONK04 Sept

It would be cool for variety, but it needs balance to not undermine the standard relationship with flashlights and the like. My vision (heh) is it occupies the equipment slot which will be used to toggle it on or off. In line with the typical NVG, light sources can blindingly bright due to too much exposure, so much so that it basically inverts what is visible and what is hidden. Thus, it isn't a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card with darkness, but can actually be crippled by enemy flashlights and whatnot.

  • Akino04 Sept

guys its called "bodycam", the pov is from a bodycam... in all seriousness, the devs are seemingly trying to balance the fact its a cam with it also being the players pov as if its their eyes. it'd probably be more "lore accurate" to just have the camera auto adjust to how bright or dark the environment is, and make the camera a little more noisy / grainy when in dark areas just like increasing ISO / exposure on a camera. That's how stuff like Axon body cams work irl. Alternatively they could stray a bit from reality and use active IR illumination from the camera and make it grayscale in the dark, much like a security camera. Overall I do agree a feature to make it easier to see in dark areas is needed, because holy its dark asf rn.

  • coconut_Maximus04 Sept

This actually is not a bad idea if done right it would not be as OP there is lots of locations where you step from dark to bright light which in reality would force players not to use night vision anyway. Lots of players are stuck with green filter in mind but in reality changes in light actually can blind you so night vision on current maps is not as good as others make it.

  • HArry04 Sept

Thermal goggles I can see being an after thought after the (hopeful) future adding of NVG's with maybe even an option for bridging to have both effects. This would be very difficult to add and it not be a complete nightmare to balance besides maybe NVG and thermals having a very short battery life. Besides the glaring balance issue I would love to see these added since modern combat does rely on these in night operations quite heavily.

  • kai04 Sept

that would ruin some of the fun

  • PixF3504 Sept

I think NVGs are a great concept overall and would fit the game very well. However, I feel like having them available in every night round could take away a lot of what makes night maps fun in the first place. Flashlights, lasers, darkness, and the challenge of navigating without full visibility all add a lot to the atmosphere and gameplay. A good solution could be to let players vote at the beginning of each round on whether NVGs are enabled or disabled. Alternatively, the host could have an option to decide whether NVGs are available in the lobby. This would keep NVGs as a useful feature without making them mandatory for every night map.

  • Sentinel04 Sept

Night Vision would literally make no sense. It completely disrupts the intention of the game being viewed through a BODY CAMERA. Sure, they have night vision modes but that is not the same thing. Personally,, having to use the flashlight in low light scenarios is a risk/reward system that Night Vision would completely negate.

  • Onirak04 Sept

I think it's a terrible idea...It would simply be illogical to introduce NVGs or any night/thermal optics. It would just ruin the night experience that currently affects our playstyle in such a sensory and immersive way... it would ruin the challenge of fighting at night. Plus, it would create an unnecessary imbalance locked behind an unlockable item, it would also be hard to integrate with the various character skins, and above all, it would simply force every player to use it just to get an advantage, making flashlights completely useless. At most, it could be added as an EXTRA mode alongside the others.

  • nll05 Sept

for me the night maps are so black i have pop my flashlight on just to walk around because i cant see anything

  • Reece05 Sept

As Fabian suggests down below, a dedicated mode for NVGs would be the best implementation of this. Pretty much every single map has pitch black areas where being able to see in them without giving away your own position would be far too powerful. But, if you level the playing field, then it's essentially just a cool filter. On NVG modes, everyone should just have them.

  • The_Drink05 Sept

I feel like it would be best in a separate, asymmetric game mode or distributed evenly on map variants. For example, three special forces operators with NVGs could infiltrate a house and rescue a hostage from 9 or so insurgents (or even a laptop from gangsters in an urban setting so the devs don't have to animate a hostage) in a PvP or PvPvE scenario like those missions from MW19, but in multiplayer. NVGs and thermals are completely busted, and putting them behind Reissad points would ruin game balance. We would also lose those moments in the dark where you're debating whether or not to turn your flashlight on and give away your position, which are still just as tense 30 hours in.

  • Dorin 05 Sept

i would love to see this as its proper SAS tactical stuff, but lets not forget that these are 2 blokes and a small team building the game and this will take time. but i rekon that good things come with time.

  • Sianks06 Sept

    Nah, not needed

  • Joevian06 Sept

Problem with night maps is people will just change their gamma on their monitors and get free hacks. Games like Arc Raiders have night maps that aren’t as viable or fun because if you want to play them as intended (low visibility, requires flashlight) you’re going to get wrecked by people upping their gamma. Wish it was different but people suck and think winning at any cost is justified so it ruins those awesome night maps for everyone else. If they were in regular rotation I’d hate it because I refuse to play those maps on public lobbies for that reason and being forced into them is not ideal. Maybe a toggle, or just get a private lobby though for those runs and play with people you know!

  • SECTORSEVEN06 Sept

To the guy that said "This is called bodycam." The point of view from the game is literally first person. It's not like an axon bodycam, it's not like a gopro, it's not like meta glasses. It's through the eyes of the operator still. Hence, someone would be able to see through night vision. Also there are night vision recorders like the Grec X that allow footage through NVG's as well.

  • blsscuit07 Sept

would be cool to add some NVGs into your character on the maps that gets on the night moment, or the map its naturally dark it is pretty much just boring to go through the map when you don't see a thing in your front, and the gameplay just resumes to see which one its the first to turn on the lantern first

  • Thorpe07 Sept

Please don't add night vision. It would really ruin the balance of the dark areas in the maps (imo) - its fun to have to chose when to turn your light on, and when to stalk in the shadows The fright of meeting someone in the pitch black, while you're both trying to be stealthy, followed up with a frantic gunfight - we'd lose that if night vision was added (if it is added, please allow it to be toggled off by a server host)

  • icebuzzer08 Sept

i think this would help, the lighting needs some work, being able to just slide up your gamma mid match and being able to see in pitch dark without a light is wrong, this setting should be disabled when in a match or removed entirely.

  • Doax08 Sept

This is a great idea because using a flashlight on someone wearing them would wash out the view. Basically night vision goggles will turn a bright white when they are used in high light areas. So, if you use a flashlight to the face of someone with them on, it will be like they got flashbanged until the flashlight is off and the nvgs recover. This adds a perfect synergy to this addition, also a small suggestion to allow for some flashlights to actually be blinding when you shine them in someone's face. On top of that give us the ability to press a button to strobe them like real tac lights. All of these additions I believe would add alot more tactical gameplay because right now if you already used your grenade, there are very little creative solutions for people sitting on a door or holding a corner. The game needs this please up vote for visibility. Edit: adding IR lasers would be great for team play as well. Making them bright enough for the enemy to also see them is the risk.

  • SFACTER108 Sept

id say at most a nvg toggle for your cam that's really low bitrate to balance at most

  • jjsword08 Sept

We needed night and day cycle for in depth strategy, NVG's will make the game easier.

  • no08 Sept

nooo, just make night less dark

  • MagoDeOztia08 Sept

I really think night vision only works if it's balanced out with flares, flashbangs, and flashlights being extremely disrupting/blinding. I agree with other commenters saying that hosts should be able to enable/disable their use because this would completely change how the game is played tho. Edit: after reading some comments, I do agree that adding this kind of doesn't make sense because of the POV, so definitely a maybe and super low priority imo.

  • Armin08 Sept

playing in the dark sucks and people also tend to leave once its dark, also nightvision would perfectly fit in this game!

  • ZEZ08 Sept

people just crank their gamma to max and can see in the dark so no need for night vision goggles.

  • Nicksen08 Sept

To me, it feels like this entire suggestion is just an attempt at bypassing the environment. As it was, I don't think nightvision is a good idea. Night vision is an inherently disruptive mechanic in a game like this. Think about it. Bodycam is a game where your loadout is a matter of personal preference. Night vision is not a preference, but an absolute necessity. You will always be at an inherent disadvantage if you don't have it. That's not healthy for the game by any conceivable metric. Also, nightvision goggles? Aren't we looking through a GoPro?

  • Riley08 Sept

add NVG's i was on trenches map when it was dark and i could not see a thing only with the flash light i could but only when aiming or looking straight

  • Jonny greenwood thom yorke09 Sept

I don't think this would be a good idea, it's SOOOOOO FUCKING tense in the dark and you have to be systematic with your flashlight/lazers. Adding NVG would basically remove all the fun.

  • twilight-bacon09 Sept

Not sure I agree with the Night Vision suggestion. Perhaps a night vision optic with reduced ADS speed? so that it's more balanced.

  • Mr_Toker09 Sept

or give it a limited battery life of the entire match not just while he is alive so when they die how ever long you use your battery the life persists to next spawn

  • Nikuś09 Sept

Game is literal camping ground on night maps so yes please. Night maps are the worst cause everybody just waits and nothing happens. Thermal or NV scopes were literally teased somewhere I think

  • Lightsome10 Sept

Absolutely terrible idea to add night vision. I think I know why people want that - this is due to severe global illumination problem in the game where dark areas are not just dark - it's just pitch black.

  • Motoko10 Sept

Big No. I want the devs to keep their original vision, and the game is supposed to be seen as if it were crappy bodycam footage. Also, games like Insurgency have this feature, and it's fun for 2 rounds.

  • r4vage11 Sept

    bro noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo please dont vote

  • aioli12 Sept

in real life your character can wear thermals or nvgs, but you wouldnt be strapping a tube to your bodycam. there should either be some situational awareness tradeoff (e.g. extreme film grain, low fov/single tube nvgs only, low resolution or depth perception), or just not have it, it completely takes the point out of a day night cycle

  • Deagle12 Sept

I completely agree. If the idea is for the game to be realistic, then it should actually be realistic! Having the possibility of using night vision equipment would make the game even more realistic while staying true to its purpose. In real wars, soldiers are fully equipped with as much technology as possible to give them a real advantage. They don’t just run straight at the enemy like crazy. So, in the game, there wouldn’t be this mentality of simply running forward and charging in recklessly. Players would have to be more cautious, the matches would feel more dramatic and intense, and it would completely change the gameplay style, making it more challenging and realistic, just like in real life. However, I believe that, to avoid making it pay-to-win, this equipment should either be free for everyone or have a very small symbolic cost.

  • Broliphic12 Sept

no, not goggles. just optics. thermals and phosphorus, etc..., but not goggles, defeats the point of having darkness. plus its supposed to be from the POV of a bodycam, not the characters eyes, so optics just makes more sense.

  • Joshua January14 Sept

I thought about this too but it in my opinion it would negate the need for a day cycle if you could just easily see in the dark.

  • prime15 Sept

I agree. It would be cool to have. If they do add them though, I hope they include different versions based on the development of night vision goggles, with one of the best ones being the AN/AVS-10, like the one shown below this comment. Of course, these would need to be pretty expensive to buy. I also think having no night vision goggles is fun in its own way. It makes playing quietly and strategically more important, while also keeping the possibility of getting jumpscared, which I think is a really fun feature. So I think they should make sure that aspect of the game is still preserved somehow.

  • j18 Sept

either add NVG, for turn off night maps for Competitive, or else its just who ever turn on flashlight loses

  • John18 Sept

Please dont add night vision!!!! IT WOULD ABSOLUTELY RUIN THE WHOLE NIGHT FUN OF THE GAME!. We love the, DARKNESS, the SCARYNESS, THE NAVIGATING THROUGH WITH A FLASHLIGHT AND LASER! ITS WHATS MAKE THIS UNIQUE I CANT FIND ANOTHER GAME WITH A 2v2 IN THE PITCH BLACK WITH FLASHLIGHTS ITS AWESOME!. PLEASE DONT ADD NVG

  • TeamKiller19 Sept

if NVG , add IR Laser too

  • friend20 Sept

at least add night vison toggle for spectator pov not drone pov

  • Corby24 Sept

what about just night versions of each map like theres a small game mode section called night vision or something

  • Kokojo24 Sept

I would love night vision on the drone maybe. I love how dark the darks are in this game! makes the laser and flashlight feel more real than any other game I have played.

  • RatsAreCool27 Sept

sick idea! i would love to be able to see at night time and it would make the game more tactical-like!

  • Xnueks29 Sept

Add NVG's but at the cost of it taking up the "gadget" slot that drones take up. I think it'd add an extra layer to what kit you plan on taking to battle.

  • dexter04 Oct

i feel it would make the game difficult for newer players and easier for experienced ones. I also feel like the darkness is one of the best aspects because you have to actually try to see your enemy instead of being able to play mindlessly, it adds that layer of difficulty I dont really see in other games

  • noo8man305 Oct

If this is added, it should be in tandem with the other suggestion of breakable lights and also have a similar risk/reward (e.g., no whitelight to expose yourself, but the grain reduces clarity particularly at distance.)

  • ElMagoDeOztia06 Oct

I really think this defeats the purpose of the body camera aesthetic, i believe that to test would be nice to have a dedicated nvg/night mode/map. for the most part i think the best solution lies in reworking some of the lighting on the maps, like adding a realistic moonlight or having additional light sources. The latter would have to be accopanied by destructible light sources imo. NVG for spectator and/or drone would be good tho.

  • Lightsome07 Oct

why is there no downvote on bad suggestions ? Night vision is a terrible idea. People want NV because of poor visibility caused by the game’s flawed global illumination. NV isn’t a fix - it’s a band-aid solution and, IMO, a forceful way of making the game easier and more casual. The real issue is the current GI implementation. It’s simply too dark, with light not scattering correctly indoors or around corners. You can have a bright day outside, yet step around a corner or into a room and suddenly get pitch-black darkness, which isn’t how light and shadows should behave. This is especially noticeable on OLED displays. To add further, during the night, the blacks can be so deep that it feels like the screen is turned off, whereas your eyes would naturally adjust in real life and still let you perceive some detail. I'm not saying the game should now be lit up - just not pitch-black around corners in bright daylight. Improve GLOBAL ILLUMINATION please and no NV will be needed.

  • MassAssassin07 Oct

for the realism I believe adding nvg and thermal scopes would add to the game. the night cycles are fun but way to dark

  • CeeJaay17 Oct

nah hard pass on this to OP for new players. add the ability for nv optics instead

  • Leol18 Oct

nah flashlights good enough and more tense... some realism just shouldnt be added

  • pawlek19 Oct

    add termo vision

  • Sassuro25 Oct

make it like a sort of equipment, like if you want to use it you will need to equip it in the grenade slot or smth like that
