Weapon Jamming

Under considerationby Kreker · 17 Aug

It would be interesting to see weapon malfunctions, from pistols to assault rifles, for greater realism. Let’s say there’s a shootout: you see that the enemy is exposed and want to kill them, but you start firing, and, let’s say, the cartridge gets stuck in the bolt. It takes time to remove the cartridge — it would be interesting to see this in such a realistic shooter.

It would be lowkey amazing to have this

  • Fiend28 Aug

I think it sounds like a cool idea but in practice I think the novelty will wear off for it rather quickly. Back in Far Cry 2 it was the most annoying thing ever to have your gun jam. Maybe if there was a hyper realism mode or something but I think there should be a good balance between fun and realism and this is too annoying for it to be fun.

  • Smooth Operator28 Aug

Could use the already existing slide racking animation for this, I think

  • Jaja28 Aug

I feel like RNG weapon failure would hurt the gameplay experience and is too mil-simy despite them trying to be realistic

  • Lidor 28 Aug

Horrible idea, versus would be determined by RNG.

  • Oliver (rsn)30 Aug

Sounds cool in theory but it would need some durability system. Otherwise it doesnt make much sense that brand new guns get jammed. Overheating guns could raise the jamming chance.

  • Ppsvnm30 Aug

can we downvote a suggestion on this site ?

  • Turtle30 Aug

Yeah, not a fan of this idea unless there is a weapon degradation system where you have to repair your weapon before a match (this could get tricky with back to back matches. Maybe you spend r points to "repair" your weapon but if its purely RNG ....nah....this just seems like an annoying idea

  • RealmX31 Aug

I'm very much against this idea. doesn't improve game experience overall for majority of current target audience, adds compexity that becomes overhead for every future new weapon addon -- Especially considering how much work the team puts into the animation of the firearms, A half-assed setup wouldn't be good for the entire image, considering the existing work already done. I know it can be a lot of fun for devs who really like developing second mechanism, But honestly, it would not be a good idea for gaming long term, at least in my personal opinion. remember that bodycam is very much in its current phase a medium pace realistic close quarter fps shooter. each roudn of respawn lasts at most 10 min. Adding jamming mechanism to a game like this is unlike cross-respawn/match mechanism of extraction shooter where it adds a valuable mechanism that adds emersion in garage. I would honestly argue that even for extraction shooter, it is a bad idea to have jamming mechanism.

  • Jay02 Sept

100%. this would be sick af

  • F02 Sept

So this can be nice, BUT a unit would never keep their guns in a mess. They make sure their guns are reliable. SO MAYBE for the first half of the game no issues, BUT perhaps as the rounds go on, the percentage of chance to a malfunction might go up, although it should still be very low like 1% of a shot fired, if that (given how many rounds are fired, that would probably result in everyone having at least one malfunction a game... which might be a bit too much tbh) It should really just be the unlucky cause of a loss of life rather than a constant occurrence. Since guns are quite reliable, too many malfunctions would be lame, and some guns would benefit/suffer more than others creating a meta.

  • MrCrispy02 Sept

It'd be a better idea if the weapon jamming would become a possibility after a few mags instead of it just randomly happening. For example lets say you fire off 5 or 6 mags and your weapon randomly jams on the 7th one. The more rounds you fire the higher the likelihood goes more after a set amount of ammunition used (idk lets just say 150) and of course it'd reset when you die because if it didn't it would get super annoying.

  • dragonesque702 Sept

I think it would be really nice if it was more like an easter egg, then actually mechanic that you need to always keep in mind. Then every time that happens would bring an element of suprise (I guess just like in real life). Maybe there should be also a mechanic of fouling your weapon e.g. when you crouch (or maybe lay if that would be added) in dirty areas (some weapons could be more prone to fouling than others). For sure too frequent jamming would be annoying and bad for the game

  • LUNA03 Sept

    no. just no.

  • DBF03 Sept

maybe the more time you spend closer to ground / are caught in debree explosions - going through brush - stuff could get in your gun somehow maybe?

  • IamSezi03 Sept

i feel like this would really only be good if it was after using the same weapon for long periods of time. like if your constantly running around, keeping the same life of course, and getting dirty, you would have to wipe off your gun/clean it or it would jam or something. but atm there isnt any modes that let you run around long enough to get to that point. i would love bigger maps and bigger gamemodes like an actually battlefield. i dont mean the game battlefield i just mean making it feel like a battlefield

  • HaviHavi03 Sept

This would only work for a singleplayer game. Competitively this would suck and dumb down pvp to RNG.

  • Ross03 Sept

I think this is towing the line too close to being unenjoyable for the sake of realism. The game is incredible, and we all love it for what the devs have done, the last thing we want is for them to take it down a route it won't return from. Weapon jams, packing mags, manual round chambering, carry limits. it fundamentally isnt that kind of game, so towing the line between ultra realism and an enjoyable FPS experience needs to be considered greatly. Things that add to the FPS experience need to be focused on now. New maps, New weapons, Increased customisation, Better optimisation, Controller support, Bringing the zombies mode back. More content to enjoy should be the priority, not trivial features that add more RNG to an already amazing system. The idea in concept is really cool, i agree. In actual function, i think it would detract from the game in a significant manner!

  • Snarmeggedon03 Sept

Personal opinion; This always seems cool until a game introduces it and it just feels like you get cheated out of a gunfight. These kinds of things have a tendency to make a video game an annoyance and if I was a new player, not knowing this was a thing in the game, and get into a gunfight and my gun jams on the first magazine I would probably not continue playing. I know the point of Bodycam is immersion, but I'm okay with leaving that out. Benefit of the doubt; I feel like the ONLY way I could tolerate this is maybe something as a mercy rule, like someone is just out there stacking bodies endlessly and their gun gets choked up from all the gas and starts to Fail to feed/fail to extract. Something small, something NOT just random for everyone. And there needs to be a good way to deal with this, like just tapping R to remediate instead of some fuck off ALT-R-F control like Tarkov has.

  • James03 Sept

Maybe if you pick up an enemy weapon, theres a small chance it can jam?? if your main weapon jams, that'll just be annoying

  • trash03 Sept

    hell nah, worst idea ever

  • ZaBov03 Sept

if this drop i swear i don't open the game ever again

  • Dingus McWingus03 Sept

it would be neat, but only if it was something exceptionally rare. If you made this happen *even just slightly* too often, deaths due to a weapon jam would feel like such bullshit. i.e. if I see it happening to me more than once every hundred or two hundred odd hours, I, and many others, are gonna start getting *real* annoyed. If it's rare, stupid rare, then it will feel like a novelty like the Battlefield secret reload animations when it happens. If it's not, it will just piss everyone off forever.

  • Chris03 Sept

NO, PLEASE DON'T ADD THIS RIGHT NOW. It makes sense in Tarkov because of weapon durability. This game doesn't have that and it shouldn't. Jamming can make sense because of "realism". This game does not have a system in place to make it make sense... at all. jamming would just be random and not because you didn't repair your gun before a raid. At the end of the day this is a game and adding jamming would just make gun fights frustratingly annoying and may I restate RANDOM. Now add something to where I need to clean my gun before games to avoid most jams then I think that is fine possibly. Jamming isn't the worst idea, but it needs to be done right to fit into the game and as of now it would not fit in.

  • e04 Sept

Nah this ain't it. Good idea but it won't be good for the game at all. If it's implemented it would have to be less than one percent chance of it happening. Even then it's just ragebait. This is not needed. This doesn't add anything needed to the game unfortunately.

  • NP04 Sept

Jamming sounds like realism but would wear thin on the skin, maybe if you pick up an unknown gun theres a SMALL chance it can jam as youre a seasoned vet at using weapons your main guns already get checked and cleared for jams true to animations

  • sanban04 Sept

Would be cool after a couple of mags deep instead of having it jam on your first mag. Also encourages to pick up different guns throughout the match to prevent jamming if you survive long enough

  • Joe089804 Sept

Learn from Tarkov, malfunctions just slow down the gameplay. Very annoying

  • xhanku04 Sept

Since there are currently virtually no penalties for team kills, wouldn't it make sense—in the spirit of the resentment felt by teammates who were killed by their own team—to increase the probability of a gun jam based on the number of team kills?

  • Triscitt04 Sept

please don't do this. It's cool until it isn't. If you do want to add this, make it rare and only happen when the shooter has fired at least a hundred rounds.

  • Frank04 Sept

my god this sounds actually atrocious. Please DO NOT

  • Zemag04 Sept

Please don't do this! I just bought the game. Don't degrade my ability to shoot. THIS SHOULD BE A TOGGLE!!!!! - if implemented.

  • mcfly05 Sept

sounds like an annoying way to lose a gun fight

  • Jeff S05 Sept

Clean your weapon while choosing your map

  • John05 Sept

Please do not add this, it would be super annoying.

  • Hihi05 Sept

Should add weapon durability. Like when a player survived and use weapon too long, or they spray rapidly many times, there is a slight chance the weapon be jammed.

  • temp8905 Sept

I've played a lot of games with jamming systems. If all that happens is the gun doesn't fire until you next press the reload button, it doesn't feel immersive or tactile. It just feels like your mouse button has stopped responding. There needs to be an immediate visual reaction when pressing fire like the player character inspecting the weapon, but that will require a lot of extra animations for an event that should be statistically small.

  • neo05 Sept

Yeah, but make it really rare because otherwise it would be really annoying

  • Reece05 Sept

I think this would work well in a PvE mode potentially, like the revamped Zombies mode coming soon. Adds to the fear and tension and makes swapping to sidearm even more likely. As many others have said, in PvP, it harms the gameplay even though seeing these animations would be really cool.

  • Apple Jack.05 Sept

I really want this too, would be cool even if its something that only certain servers have or matchmaking, granted with ammo being a thing this might actually have a purpose.

  • Benelli05 Sept

no this is not a good idea

  • Grumpy16905 Sept

Weapon jamming sucks as an idea. There are very few times IRL where well maintained weapons actually jam. Obviously this is designed to be a realistic game, but adding something that is RNG rather than skill based is going to suck 9/10. Thought you were going to get a clutch, jam, loss. Thought you were going to get those two guys lining up in front of you, got one, jam, dead. If implemented properly -only jamming after firing 4/5 full mags- then sure, I can get behind that, lets make barrels glow too, that could be used as an indicator of roughly how close you are to overheating and jamming, but having RNG jamming is going to suck, especially as this game gets more competative modes. TLDR: Please don't add weapon jamming.

  • imskenty05 Sept

so that would mean the game goes back to being an experience, pure realism in which you get bored fast because its uncomfortable, and it wipes off competitivity, making you lose a fight randomly because of it. i think it would be a good idea that people could activate in custom matches, but comes disabled on default

  • thevoodoodoctor06 Sept

NO WAY MAYBE IN A CERTAIN MODE , BUT TO INTRODUCE TOO MUCH BASELINE INCONSITENCY IS ALSO UNREALISTIC... WE CAN ASSUME THE OPERATOR TAKES GOOD CARE OF THEIR WEAPONS!!! https://bodycam-suggestions.featureupvote.com/suggestions/726964/comment/798306#comment798306

  • Chad_Hogan06 Sept

Just sounds like unnecessary RNG trash... Luck based mechanics have no place in this game.

  • John06 Sept

    Please do not add this

  • Wouter06 Sept

I'd say no to this as it is too much RNG. Weapons jam usually because of poor (black market) quality or bad maintenance... the operators in Bodycam seem like professionals that will make sure their weapons are in top notch condition :)

  • mason07 Sept

I believe it will be absolutely amazing for 3 weeks. And from then on, the dislike for the system would grow. To balance the fun with realism, I think having it happen very rarely would be a GREAT, plausible solution.

  • A_Moist_Pancake07 Sept

Hard pass. Anyone would hate it if it came down to 1v1 on a game being 9 -9 and your weapon jammed and got you the game loss.

  • Patrys07 Sept

This is such an awful "realism" feature. Actual military equipment is qualified based on mean rounds between stoppages (jams) and mean rounds between failures (requiring a visit to the gunsmith). Both are measured in thousands. It's completely unrealistic for a service rifle to regularly jam, and if it only happens to a single player every couple of matches then it's going to feel super unfair. Stop making service guns behave like something you pulled out of a bog. It is NOT realistic.

  • Basidial 07 Sept

Maybe if it was in some form of ultra realism mode with a toggle or if it was from the player doing something wrong. A pure RNG system where your gun might just not work would be extremely frustrating for a ranked game. There would be some games where you just straight up can’t win no matter how well you play.

  • Rüzgar07 Sept

would be amazing, but it is annoying since it sometimes happens on the assault rifle..

  • beastragnar07 Sept

not agree at all is not tarkov

  • Andrew08 Sept

terrible idea guns dont jam like that in real life you think soldiers dont clean weapons between missions stop doing too much

  • Noot Noot08 Sept

It sounds cool and all but in when in game like bodycam that is just fps shooting game and not like tarkov which is a extraction game etc it's not a good idea. If this game was like tarkov yes but as a fps realism game gun jam would not bee good idea at all.

  • carrioncat08 Sept

guns realy do not jam often enough IRL, anymore, whenever a game adds this it feels fake AF, ironically. its so artificial.

  • Mike09 Sept

Like others have said its a novelty, not a requirement for general gameplay or realism. To implement this without it wearing off quickly you could introduce a durability system that would be determined by weather or if youve been near an explosion that way its not complete RNG and would be expected and not be as frustrating.

  • C09 Sept

maybe let's not do this. Good guns don't jam often.

  • Scorpy10 Sept

I understsnd the idea behind this suggestion, for more realism, but in my honest opinion, as a regular at a shooting range, and a gamer, the jamming is going to be more annoying than good, especially the fact that it could be RNG based, how exactly would this be implemented fairly, for example, RNG is bad for you in couple rounds, and times when you needed that kill shot on an enemy, your gun jams, if this happens in such a way that I die because of the jam, too often, will the same happen to everyone else, the same amount of times the same ways? If it does, players will very quickly start complaining, I dont think any of us want to play jam simulator. So please do not impliment this suggestion.

  • Grape10 Sept

Can we stop letting retards who have never handled a firearm make gun suggestions like this?

  • Maxim11 Sept

I agree to this only if the jamming would be by ur own mistake like when midmatch u get ur weapon dirty somehow or dusty and it forces u to avoid these things and pay more attention to surroundings

  • yan takada13 Sept

Gun jams sound very cool to me—they can add a lot of realism to the game. But if it's based on pure RNG, winning becomes a matter of luck, which is a bad idea. Maybe they could include it in the upcoming offline campaign mode, but competitively, it could ruin the game.

  • my name13 Sept

i think this would take away how good the gun play feels right now, also i feel like if it was implemented it would have to be quite rare or it get annoying very quickly.

  • Jack14 Sept

possibility of jammed bullet in barrel chamber as a result of ignoring this fact during reloading of new magazine.

  • zalo14 Sept

i started playing operator and it makes sense against bots idk how id feel with it on during pvp unless its a feature you yourself can enable or disable i also would agree with it having more of an effect in maps like trenches

  • Tyler15 Sept

It would be really cool if it followed the same stress-based system; if you're in a gun fight, you are more likely to have your gun be jammed; or maybe, if you ram your gun against a wall too many times, it jams.

  • Ravn15 Sept

Against this in competitive play. Would make sense in a large casual team deathmatch setting.

  • ArKeTiCt15 Sept

this can directly link with a durability system for the guns too, if you maintain your guns, they should be in good shape, but if you run so may matches without cleaning/maintaining your guns, they probability for a jam in matches can rise! so if you go 15-20 matches without servicing your gun, you can reach a maximum probability of 1% to jam for with every bullet fired, if you maintain them, the probability goes to down to 0.1% or even 0.05% and rises gradually with every match the gun goes without service. it could also be a better opportunity to show weapon degradation, so a beat-up gun can look scratched, muddied and generally in a bad shape, and you can tell immediately when you look at it, so you can visually identify that your guns need maintenance without going to the menu to check for example. i think that would be a good balance to make it feel real and also have it be less annoying/frequent.

  • Elias_der_Kuhle16 Sept

I think the only good way to implement this where it isnt annoying if its really rare that a weapon jams. Maybe somewhere around 1/5000 rounds or so. obviously it depends on the weapon but just really rare

  • XtraHot17 Sept

    Please add weapon jam

  • Van9417 Sept

Could be turned off or on per match for the naysayers and the base mechanism could be use per match (simulating fouling of chamber/barrel/spring deterioration). Would be amazing

  • ChampionOfTheSun17 Sept

if i lose a 5-5 wingman on a 1v1 clutch because my weapon jammed id toss my monitor out the window :(

  • Stack17 Sept

guess your weapon would jam in a warthunder 500% booster way how could that be good ?

  • Sn3k22 Sept

Who tf is voting for this garbage

  • LUNA25 Sept

there is a point where realism becomes un-fun. weapon jamming is one of those points

  • Fat Damel26 Sept

I agree on the weapon jamming when there lots of dust, debris and mud entered the chamber or covered the weapon with it. But not as a standard feature. Now imagine you play for ELO and your very first shot gets jammed and you die because of it. However if you in one spot and get suppression fire and the bullets close to you hit the wall and the dust coming from that impact is close to you, your weapon might jam. But not if you leave that area to avoid the dust - Yes I agree on that While the AK seems to be pretty resistant to weapon jamming from what I heard others might not.

  • George Thomas30 Sept

Definitely a 1+! Make it not only dependent on the model but also other factors like round fired since respawn, type of ammo used in case different ammo gets introduced later, and of course the map! Yes, the map. This makes the jamming not just a random thing but a tactical consideration when choosing your loadout depending on the map. Currently I think the M4 and M16 have an unfair advantage and making it more likely for them to jam on a map like Trenches after the player has walked a certain amount of meters would be amazing. Nobody in the Ukrainian trenches uses these rifles, they all prefer the AK family of rifles for good reason. Of course the AR rifles wouldn't jam on a map like Backrooms. Without giving jamming this bit of variance I don't think players would appreciate it. It's boring to always use the same weapon on all maps anyway, if you like that play Counter-Strike or something is my opinion. Also make unjamming not a complete annoyance, unchambering should be quick.

  • Jamal01 Oct

i don't exactly wanna become Swiss cheese while I'm trying to unjam my gun

  • VALH3RU05 Oct

Not keen on this at all. Combined with the random camera adjustments it's just too much getting in the way of the competitive nature of the game with RNG elements directly getting you killed or affecting match outcomes. In theory the idea sounds neat but in practice it's very gimmicky and encountering it in other games just causes frustration rather than enhanced enjoyment and immersion. I think Bodycam's focus on immersive reality should be on the visceral combat experience which a jamming feature actually gets in the way of.

  • Mikkel05 Oct

This would be cool af but i think it should be a selectable option when choosing a map or game like having deathmatch and deathmatch Jam

  • Armin08 Oct

no really not, how can this have 5.5k upvotes

  • Anton09 Oct

Switching to secondary would be greatly encouraged. If a gun is jammed it has to be unjammed to use it. Secondary will not just be an extra gun if your main runs out.

  • WpNsXpRt8713 Oct

I've been saying this for YEARS. America's Army (way back when, amazing game) used to have this mechanic, and it was an amazing realism mechanic to be modeld in game. It can be done, and dynamically modeled/written, with multiple factors triggering it or influencing its "proc" or chance of proc (sorry, old MMORPG lingo). Anyways, for the dudes in comments thinking this would get old fast, or be annoying. This can be done "right", and also add an amazing realism element to the game, and also that unpredictable "oh f*ck"/ scramble element to battle. I think this could be good to consider. As someone who has probably fired 25,000+ rds myself IRL, I can tell you, even with a clean weapon, weapon jamming and feed malfunctions, issues with ammo, etc, are very real lol, and I'm sure are even moreso on the battlefield. So, if you don't like that in a hyper-realisism tactical shooter... idk what to tell you. Anyways, I think devs could make this happen. I could see it.

  • lord bimby23 Oct

weapon jamming is tough to add in a way that makes sense considering the game should be fun, and weapon jamming can bring fun to a screeching halt with a record scratch. maybe consider adding weapon damage instead that leads to jamming. if a rifle takes a few shots to the reciever, it might jam, but the player can opt into throwing their gun away for one on the ground. all in all a system like this would take considerable effort, and personally would rather not have weapon jamming due to faulty ammo.

  • john smith25 Oct

maybe like a stress an d non stress jam animations and duration
